EVEN in the gloom of heartbreaking Australian Open defeat, Rafael Nadal showed humour and class - vowing to return to Melbourne Park in search of more Grand Slam glory.
Exhausted after almost six hours of gruelling battle against Novak Djokovic, Nadal grinned: "Good morning everybody.
"First thing that i have to say congratulations to Novak and his team, they deserve it.
"They are doing something fantastic.
"Starting the season with final here, playing a fantastic match against Novak, so thank you for that.
"I really had a fantastic tournament. I will never forget this match even though I lost. It is something special.
"I will come back for many, many years."
Officials brought seats on-court for Djokovic and Nadal to use during the trophy presenation after both men writhed in pain while standing at the net during the speeches.
Djokovic had slumped onto his back on Rod Laver Arena after the 5hr 53min extravaganza.
Nadal walked slowly to the net to honour his conqueror.
As Djokovic leant on the net during the presentations, he could barely muster a smile.
He praised Nadal after notching his fifth major since 2008 and his fourth in a year.
"Good morning from me, too, to everybody," he laughed.
"First of all Rafa, you are one of the best players ever, you are one of the most respected on tour.
"We made history tonight and unfortunately there couldn't be two winners.
"I hope we have many more matches like this and many more finals.
"To all my country, Serbia, my brothers, myny parents and to all that have been supporting me. Thank you."
