Pas de problème pour Nadal

Rafael Nadal, récent vainqueur à Montréal et Cincinnati, n'a pas connu de problème pour passer le premier tour de l'US Open lundi. L'Espagnol, de nouveau n°2 mondial, a dominé l'Américain Ryan Harrison (6-4, 6-2, 6-2) et rencontrera Dutra Silva ou Pospisil.

 Le grand favori du tournoi n'a connu aucune difficulté lors de son entrée en lice. Rafael Nadal, auteur du doublé Montréal-Cincinnati, a dominé l'Américain Ryan Harrison en trois manches (6-4, 6-2, 6-2). Déjà très bien en jambes et avec le coup droit des grands jours, il a détruit l'organisation advserse. Harrison a de l'envie et du potentiel mais le tout reste encore trop brouillon pour bousculer un cador comme le n°2 mondial. Après une honnête résistance dans le premier set, le 97e joueur mondial a subi une démolition en règle : promené dans tous les coins du court, transpercé sur ses tentatives de montée, agressé non stop.

Pour le vainqueur 2010 et finaliste 2011, le scénario a donc été parfait. On l'a même vu très souvent au filet et il s'est également livré sans retenue physiquement avec quelques coups en bout de course de gala. «C'était mon premier match à l'US Open et sur le court Arthur Ashe depuis deux ans alors le sentiment est fantastique. Je suis ravi de la manière dont je joue en ce moment mais je prends tout ça au jour le jour et je ne me dis que pas que je vais forcément très bien joué ici parce que j'ai gagné deux grois tournois avant. J'ai bien commencé et c'était important car les conditions sont difficiles et qu'en plus un premier tour n'est jamais facile.»

Nadal sans complexe sur dur

INDIAN WELLS (États-Unis) - Rafael Nadal a très bien tenu le coup pour ses retrouvailles avec les courts en dur samedi en battant l'Américain Ryan Harrison au 2e tour du tournoi Masters 1000 d'Indian Wells.

L'Espagnol, qui n'avait plus joué sur dur depuis fin mars 2012 à Miami, soit 346 jours, a disposé 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 de l'Américain de 20 ans (73e mondial) et retrouvera l'Argentin Leonardo Mayer pour une place en 8e de finale.  

« Il y a deux semaines, je ne savais pas si je pourrais jouer ici alors je suis content d'être au 3e tour, a dit le Majorquin. Ma condition physique et mes mouvements doivent encore s'améliorer, mais chaque victoire est importante, car elle me permet de jouer un autre match. C'est ce dont j'ai besoin en ce moment, même si cela vient sans jouer de manière fantastique.»
 

Nadal a compté un break d'avance dans la première manche, mais a rendu cet avantage. « J'ai fait un jeu remarquable à 4-2 avec une double faute et trois coups droits en dehors du stade », a-t-il ironisé. Il a toutefois joué un très bon tie-break et a pu dérouler dans la seconde manche.
 

« Pour mon premier tournoi sur dur, je ne m'attends pas à un gros résultat », a de nouveau prévenu Nadal.

« Je ne veux pas prendre de risques fous même si ma mentalité est toujours de donner le meilleur de moi-même, a indiqué le Majorquin. Je ne pense pas à mon genou, mais c'est vrai que c'est plus facile pour moi en ce moment de jouer sur terre battue et que la saison n'est pas très loin. »
 

Nadal affectionne Indien Wells, où il a gagné deux fois (2007, 2009) et où il a au moins atteint les demi-finales ces sept dernières années.
 

Il retrouve en Californie le reste du « Big Four » -Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray- pour la première fois depuis son élimination surprise au 2e tour de Wimbledon et sa descente au 5e rang mondial.

INDIAN WELLS, California (Reuters) - With the tennis world watching closely, Rafa Nadal made a successful return to Indian Wells with a 7-6 6-2 victory over Ryan Harrison in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open on Saturday.
Though initially looking a little rusty, the Spanish left-hander showed no visible sign of discomfort after being sidelined for seven months last year by a left knee injury before sealing the win in just over an hour and a half.
Playing his first match on a hardcourt surface in 346 days, Nadal edged a close first set 7-3 in the tiebreak, then broke Harrison's serve in the third and fifth games of the second to take firm control.
The Spanish world number five, who had his left knee taped up through the match, served out to book his place in the third round, ending Harrison's brave challenge with an overhead smash to spark loud roars from the crowd.
"I am very happy to be back here at Indian Wells for sure," Nadal, who clinched the Indian Wells title in 2007 and 2009, said courtside. "It's one of my favorite tournaments and I love being here.
"I didn't know if I was going to be able to come two weeks ago but I am very happy to be here."
Nadal, who has enjoyed a successful tournament run on clay in recent weeks, was given an electrifying welcome by a vocal crowd when he first walked out on to the showpiece Stadium Court.
He made a confident start, racing into a 4-1 lead before his 73rd-ranked opponent broke back in the seventh game to take the opening set into a tiebreak.

Nadal, who had occasionally blasted his ground strokes long as he tried to find his range, stormed 5-1 ahead in the tiebreak before wrapping up the set in 54 minutes after he struck a deep forehand which forced an error by Harrison.
The Spaniard did not look back, breaking Harrison in the third game of the second set with a stunning crosscourt pass and also in the fifth with a dipping forehand service return which the American could not retrieve.
While Nadal did not attempt to slide in his customary manner as he moved from side to side in some of the longer baseline rallies, he did not appear to be in any discomfort on the surface expected to trouble him most following his knee injury.
The Spaniard, who returned to the ATP circuit last month in South America where he competed in three relatively minor claycourt events, winning two of them after reaching all three finals, will next face Leonardo Mayer of Argentina.
Mayer brushed aside Russian Mikhail Youzhny 6-2 6-3 earlier in the day

Rafael Nadal a parfaitement tenu le choc pour ses retrouvailles avec les courts en dur samedi en battant l'Américain Ryan Harrison au 2e tour du tournoi Masters 1000 d'Indian Wells.
L'Espagnol, qui n'avait plus joué sur dur depuis fin mars 2012 à Miami, soit 346 jours, a disposé 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 de l'Américain de 20 ans (73e mondial).
Nadal a repris la compétition sur terre battue en février après sept mois d'absence pour soigner son genou gauche et est en quête de repères sur la surface bien plus traumatisante utilisée dans le désert californien.
Son retour en compétition a été couronné de succès sur la terre battue sud-américaine avec une finale à Vina del mar et deux titres (Sao Paulo, Acapulco).
Le Majorquin affectionne Indian Wells, où il a gagné deux fois (2007, 2009) et où il a au moins atteint les demi-finales ces sept dernières années.
